Ruth Branch Murphy, 95 of Morganton, NC, died Monday, April 29, 2024.

Born in Yancey County, NC on August 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late H.R. Branch and Louise Hensley Branch. Ruth was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her church, and her family. Mrs. Murphy retired as a supervisor from Hanes Textiles, and she enjoyed her time at Phifer Wellness Center.

Ruth is survived by her children, Glenda Buss (Wally) and Mike Murphy (Regina); great-grandchildren, Thomas and Tyler Hollifield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis Murphy; grandson, Larry Hollifield; three brothers; and four sisters.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Cross Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Dr. Jeffrey Beach officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Memorial Baptist Church, 650 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Murphy’s healthcare team at College Pines and Amorem Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
